Fayose’s Aide Calls For Magu’s Prosecution, Accuses EFCC, APC Of Sponsoring Protest Against Fayose

Special Assistant to the governor of Ekiti State on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka has described the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as the headquarter of corruption in Nigeria, saying;

“If there is anyone that should be urgently prosecuted, it is Ibrahim Magu who was indicted by the DSS and still operating illegally as the EFCC Acting Chairman despite his rejection by the Senate.”
Olayinka, who reacted to a protest in Abuja today against Governor Ayodele Fayose, said  it was shameful that instead of labouring on how to better the lives of suffering Nigerians, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi and the EFCC were busy sponsoring a N1, 500-per-protester protest against Governor Fayose.

Describing the so-called protest as petty, useless and an afterthought, the governor’s spokesperson said;
“It is obvious that Fayose’s emergence as Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum has unsettled the APC cabal because they fear that he is capable of using theplatform against President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term ambition.

“Ridiculously, in their desperation and fear of the unknown, EFCC shamelessly turned itself to the mouthpiece of the protesters by issuing press statement on their behalf.
“Less than 50 paid protesters came to the EFCC and the next thing to be seen was a press statement signed by EFCC Head of Media & Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, isn’t this ridiculous? Is EFCC spokesperson also the mouthpiece of the so-called protesters? May be EFCC operatives including Magu should have joined the protest so that Nigerians will know that it was EFCC that protested and the media will be able to use appropriate headline like; ‘EFCC stages protest against Fayose.’ Shame!
“If they are having headache because of Governor Fayose’s rising profile, especially his emergence as Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, their headache will soon turn to migraine that will be difficult to cure.”
Insisting that the EFCC must first remove the timber in its eyes before attempting to remove the toothpicks in other people’s eyes, Olayinka said;
“Magu that was indicted of corruption by the DSS and other functionaries of the Buhari’s APC government must be prosecuted first.”
He reminded Governor Fayose’s detractors that he is a sitting and well rooted governor that cannot be prosecuted, saying; “Those whose only daily business is to run after Peter Ayodele Fayose should just keep their gun powder dry and wait till 2018.”

Olayinka advised APC leaders, especially Fayemi to rise above pettiness and stop fighting a lost battle, saying;
“It is funny that they still believe they can use the same strategy that they used in 2006 to wrestle power in 2017.”

Phones, Computers And Other Gadgets Have Added To A 63% Increase In Electronic Waste In Asia

According to a study from the United Nations University, a growing number of gadgets and more people who can afford to buy them has led to a 63% increase in electronic waste in Asia. Phones, computers and other appliances have contributed to 12.3 million tons of e-waste generated across the continent between 2010 and 2015.
China alone more than doubled its electronic trash within that time frame. Shorter lifespans of technology and the need for replacements, is cited as another reason why e-trash is growing in Asia.

The study notes that e-trash is often dumped illegally, ultimately causing environmental problems. Tech products often contain lead and mercury that are toxic to humans and the planet. Meanwhile, the process of burning electronics which is often conducted by landfills to get rid of clutter can cause chronic health issues.

World football –ruling body, FIFA, has named the President of Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, into one of its most important committees – the Organising Committee for Competitions.
Hitherto, the world body had different committees for organization of its several competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, FIFA Confederations Cup, FIFA Women’s World Cup, FIFA U20 World Cup, FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, FIFA U17 World Cup, FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Pinnick was a member of the Organising Committee for the FIFA U20 World Cup.However, at its 66th Congress in Mexico City on 12th– 13th May 2016, and in accordance with the revised FIFA Statutes that came into force on 27th April 2016, the model of the standing committees was reviewed, cutting the number from 26 to 9.

The new model has only the following committees: Governance, Finance, Development, Member Associations, Referees, Players’ Status, Football Stakeholders, Medical, Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions.

Pinnick’s letter of appointment, dated 18th January 2017 and signed by Fatma Samoura, the Secretary General, read inter alia: “We are very pleased to inform you that you have been appointed member of the Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions. We wish you our sincere congratulations on this appointment.

“The FIFA administration is at your disposal through the following Administration Officer, who will be in contact with you regarding the upcoming meetings and any further aspects relating to your office as member of this committee: Colin Smith, Chief Competitions Officer.
“We wish you great success and enjoyment in this role at FIFA and look forward to welcoming you soon to Zurich.”
The Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions is headed by Aleksander Ceferin, President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The tenure of members is for 2017-2021. In line with the new FIFA reforms, each proposed member of any of the committees was made to go through a comprehensive integrity check conducted by several organisations of global relevance and stature.

Pinnick’s appointment, and in particular the thorough and painstaking checks that he passed with full marks, is a big thumbs –up for Nigerian Football, and puts out the light on the unsavoury innuendoes and deliberate mischief of a few individuals intent on putting the country’s game under a cloud.

As a member of the CAF Organising Committee for the Africa Cup of Nations, Pinnick is presently at the 31st Africa Cup finals ongoing in Gabon, and will be match commissioner for Saturday’s potentially –explosive West African derby between Mali and Ghana.

The new member of the Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions, who swivelled through the ranks of football administration (from board member to second vice chairman, first vice chairman and chairman of Delta State Football Association, to Executive Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission before his election as President of Nigeria Football Federation in September 2014), is also a candidate for election into the Executive Committee of Confederation of African Football.

The CAF elections will take place at the 39th Ordinary General Assembly of the organization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 16th March.
