The House Of Representatives Is Trying To Seek A Safe Haven For Yahya Jammeh In Nigeria

The House of Representatives on Wednesday admitted a motion seeking a safe haven for outgoing President of The Gambia, Mr. Yahya Jammeh, in Nigeria.

According to The Punch, the motion will be formally debated on Thursday (today).
A member from Jigawa State and former National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mr. Sani Zoro, moved the motion under matters of urgent public importance.

The session was presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara.
However, the motion would have been rejected outright but for Dogara, who ruled that it should be admitted for debate.

Dogara had advised members to wait till Thursday’s debate (today) to either reject or accept the motion by passing a resolution on the matter.
The kernel of the motion, according to Zoro, is that Jammeh can come to Nigeria to rest, where his safety can be guaranteed while he is out of office.

He said this was part of efforts to ensure that there was a crisis-free transition in The Gambia, following the December 1, 2016, presidential poll, which Jammeh lost.
He was defeated by Mr. Adama Barrow, who is waiting to take over from him.
Jammeh had initially accepted defeat by congratulating Barrow.

However, he later reneged on his promise to hand over power, opting instead to contest the outcome of the result in court.
Some leaders of the sub-regional body, ECOWAS, including President Muhammadu Buhari of

Nigeria, have been mediating in what appears to be a looming political crisis in The Gambia and how to avert it.
Only on Tuesday, the House, through the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, had insisted that Jammeh should step down.

It also stated that as a parliament in the West African subregion, it would support the position of the leaders on Jammeh.

Dogara had stated, “We wish to commend the President of Nigeria and indeed the leadership of ECOWAS for their principled stance on the matter.”

Fayose, who was reacting to the demand by the people of the town that Ikere-Ekiti should produce the next governor of the state, said he had taken the matter to God in prayers and was waiting for God’s directive.

While saying that Ikere-Ekiti, like any other town in the state could produce their children to seek election into the office of the governor of the state, he urged the people ‎to also take the matter before God.

”With God all things are possible. I will advise you to ‎take the matter to the Lord in prayers since you are legitimately qualified like any other town in the state. As a leader of the party, I must create a level playing ground for all aspirants. It is God who puts people in positions of authority.

” I am currently waiting on God to give me the directive on who to support for the coming election. As for when I will come out with my choice of candidate, we still have over a year before the election and I hope that by the time we clock three years in office in October, the coast would have been clearer,” he said.

The minister who earn as low as K1,608, recently donated an ambulance to Mulanje district hospital, two motorcycles and 300 bicycles to the Police station in Mulanje.
Speaking to The Daily Times, the executive director of  Malawi Economic Justice Network, Dalitso Kubalasa, who is suspecting some form of money laundering activities asked the Minister to explain the source of his money.
'It is always fair and proper to come out clean to say where the money is coming from to dispel any rumour. Such money could be part of some money laundering activities so it’s fair to be transparent otherwise a spirit of sharing is a welcome development.'
However, the Malawi financial watchdog,  Independent Commission on Accountability and Transparency (iCAT) is said to be investigating the minister's wealth.

Nigeria Severs Diplomatic Ties With Taiwan, Shuts Its Abuja Office

The federal government yesterday announced that Nigeria will be severing its diplomatic ties with Taiwan and that the Taiwan diplomatic office in Abuja should be relocated to Lagos where it will now serve as as Trade mission.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, who disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja yesterday, said this became necessary following the Federal government's decision to pledge support for ‘One China’.

According to Onyeama, Taiwan is not a country that is recognized under international law as it is just a small island nation 180km east of China. According to him, having any diplomatic ties with Taiwan as against China which is the country, is against international law and practice.

Moreso the One China police been supported by the Federal government stipulates that any government that would want to seek relations with the People Republic of China must severe its relationship with the Republic of China also known as Taiwan.

“Taiwan will stop enjoying any privileges because it is not a country that is recognized under international law and under the position we have taken internationally, we recognize the people of China. Taiwan will not have any diplomatic representation in Nigeria and also they will be moving out of Abuja to Lagos to the extent that they function as a trade mission with a skeletal staff. Chinese government does not oppose trading with Taiwan as such as long there is no formal contact with the government that will suggest recognition of Taiwan as sovereign country” he said

He said Nigeria was not forced to take the decision, adding that the country recognized the People’s Republic of China as a country because Nigeria was one of the leading African nations that fought for China to reclaim its seat at the UN Security Council from Taiwan.

CNN Reveals 8 Donald Trump's 'Interests And Ties' To Russia (See Photos/Documents)

During Wednesday's first press conference for the incoming U.S President Donald Trump, he finally admitted to Russian interference in the U.S elections but stated categorically that he had no business deals, interests or ties to Russia or it's president Vladmir Putin.
Now, CNN, has revealed in a new report, that Donald Trump has about 8 'interests and ties' to Russia. Read the full report after the cut...
1.) Miss Universe Moscow
In 2013 Trump made millions when he partnered with Russian billionaire Aras Agalarov to host Miss Universe in Moscow.
2.)Trump Tower Moscow
An attempt to build a Trump Tower in Moscow fell through before it began. CNN didn't find any projects that were actually completed in Russia.
In a 2007 deposition, Trump was asked about the proposal for the project.
"It was a Trump International Hotel and Tower. It would be a nonexclusive deal, so it would not have precluded me from doing other deals in Moscow, which was very important to me."
3.) Trump Vodka
Trump put down no money, slapped his name on a brand and claimed royalties. Drinks Americas Holdings actually made the vodka. However, the company's former CEO told CNNMoney they didn't make much headway into the Russian market.
All they got was a single deal to sell 8,000 cases of vodka, a fraction of the 100,000 cases they sold worldwide. There's no evidence that it's still being sold.
The real value, however, was the photo-op.
"If you can sell vodka made in the Netherlands to Russians in gold bottles with 'Trump' on them, and wealthy Russians think this is good vodka, this is a marketing coup," said Patrick Kenny, former CEO of Drinks Americas Holdings.
4.) Palm Beach mansion sale
Trump sold a mansion in Palm Beach, Florida, to Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev for $95 million.
5.) "Russians" investing in Trump
In 2008, Donald Trump Jr. said Trump's businesses "see a lot of money pouring in from Russia."
"And in terms of high-end product influx into the US, Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets; say in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo and anywhere in New York. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia. There's indeed a lot of money coming for new-builds and resale reflecting a trend in the Russian economy and, of course, the weak dollar versus the ruble," he said.
6.) Trademarks
Trump hired the law firm Sojuzpatent to file at least eight trademarks in Russia between 1996 and 2008, including "Trump," "Trump Home" and "Trump Tower."
7.)The Bayrock Group
Trump partnered with the Bayrock Group, a company run by Soviet immigrants, and according to a lawsuit filed, financed by Russian and Kazakhstan money. Together, they developed Trump properties in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and New York.
They also planned on opening a Trump Tower in Moscow. However, Trump said in a deposition that the plan fell through after media reports began questioning Trump's net worth. The partners with Russian ties in the United States backed out.
8.) Paul Manafort
Trump's ties to Russia go beyond business deals. His former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, had connections with Russia that go much deeper, including to Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine's former president who fled the country. Yanukovych, who is now in Russia, "called upon Vladimir Putin to send Russian troops into Ukraine," according to a White House statement.
Manafort's company, Davis Manafort International LLC, retained Edelman to work on "Yanukovych's visibility in the US and Europe."

A lawsuit filed by Ukraine's former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko describes Manafort as a "key adviser to President Yanukovich and other Ukraine political figures since approximately 2003."

'Lekan Fatodu Tried To Kill Me' - Sahara Reporters Publisher Sowore Alleges

Yesterday, the Lagos state police command arrested Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, following a petition by one Lekan Fatodu, whom he, Sowore, had alleged via a publication on his website, that he was being used by former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, to launder money out of the country while he was in office.

Sowore in a new post on his Facebook, alleged that Lekan in company of one of his friends simply identified as Andre, tried to kill him when they waylaid him at GRA Ikeja yesterday.

Read What He Shared:

"I am now safely out of the labyrinth of a police conspiracy centred around one Lekan Fatodu whom, in January 2016, we reported on SaharaReporters had been involved in laundering money for Femi Fani-Kayode. On Wednesday, Lekan and a friend of his referred to as “Ándre” waylaid me at GRA Ikeja and tried to kill me. The attempt was resisted by the public, following which he showed up later with a police van from Area "F" police with a plain cloth police team. As it turned out, Commissioner of the Lagos State Police Command, Fatai Owoseni was part of the conspiracy, as he pulled out a petition alleging "criminal defamation" against me, got upset when I questioned his position and impartiality, and threatened to deal with me. Even in the days of General Abacha, I did not experience that brazen partiality. My attack by Fatodu was organized with the police, but as they were unable to arrest me directly, he was given the cover to carry out an attack that would give the police their needed tonic to take vengeance on me. The situation wasn't better when I was hurled before Lagos CP, Mr. Owoseni and later, Frank Mba, who started a winding story claiming it was a messy case. I was asked to sign for my bail on Self Recognizance, but I declined, insisting I had not been arrested by the police and were that the case, that I preferred to be booked and shown an arrest warrant. After a short argument, I was let go without signing a bail bond, but was asked to return to the Panti Police Station on Thursday at 2p.m. I wish to thank all Nigerians and others who have reached out to me over this saga. I am grateful to Peter Claver Oparah, Temitope Gomez and Inibehe Effiong who served last night as my lawyer, as well as the construction workers at Isaac John Street who came out to defend me from what could have been a fatal attack. I will return to Panti on Thursday as requested, to confront the police over the case. Rest assured that I've always prepared for things of this nature this in the course of my self-appointed duties as a conscience of the public. If you have spare time tomorrow, meet me at the SCID at Panti at 2 pm. There is no retreat and no surrender."

He has since been retired.

The council also found Justice Umezulike guilty of allegedly “receiving a donation of N10m from a businessman, Prince Arthur Eze, during his book launch while two cases in which Eze was said to have had “vested interest”, were in the judge’s court.”
