Former Apprentice Contestant Sues Donald Trump For Defamation

A former Apprentice contestant who accuses US President-elect Donald Trump of s3xual assault has filed a defamation lawsuit against him.

Summer Zervos, who alleges Mr Trump forced himself on her in 2007, said he lied to the nation about his behaviour.

The lawsuit, which Ms Zervos announced at a news conference, alleges Mr Trump is a "liar and misogynist" who "debased and denigrated" her.

The news came just three days before Mr Trump is sworn in as president.

"Since Mr Trump has not issued a retraction, as I requested, he has therefore left me with no alternative but to sue him in order to vindicate my reputation," Ms Zervos told journalists in Los Angeles.

She was joined by her lawyer, Gloria Allred, a Democratic party activist, who said the plaintiff's allegations had passed a lie detector test.

Ms Zervos is one of several women who came forward to accuse Mr Trump of s3xual assault in the weeks leading up to the presidential election.

The 41-year-old former reality show contestant said Mr Trump s3xually assaulted her during a meeting to discuss job opportunities at a Beverly Hills hotel.

She said he "began thrusting his genitals" as she fended off his advances.

The president-elect has dismissed the claims as "false and ridiculous" and vowed to sue the accusers for their allegations.

Troops, Nigerian Warship Head For Gambia To Sack Jammeh

Nigeria soldiers will, on Wednesday (today), arrive at a base of the Economic Community of West African States troops in Senegal to ensure that President Yahya Jammeh of the Gambia steps down on Thursday, January 19.

Nigerian warship, NNS UNITY, is also heading for the coast of The Gambia to join the operation.

The Punch learnt from a top military source in the Nigerian Air Force that the troops would be briefed by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, in the early hours of Wednesday, before leaving for Senegal.

It was gathered that apart from the NAF and the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Army would also contribute troops, although the number of deployment could not yet be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

The source said some of the NAF fighter jets were expected to airlift the troops.

He said, “I can confirm to you that men of the Air Force will leave for Senegal tomorrow (Wednesday). They will be briefed by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, at the Kainji base in Niger State.

“That Nigeria is deploying troops is now a certainty after several meetings with The Gambian president yielded no result. The Chiefs of Defence Staff of ECOWAS countries came to Abuja on Saturday, where they discussed what components each member state is expected to contribute to the troops that will force Yahya Jammeh out.

“The troops are expected to stay for two weeks and they will be received at a base in Senegal.”
Another military source added, “The NNS Unity is currently sailing off the coast of Ghana, after leaving from Lagos. It is not only Nigeria. Senegal is the host country for the troops, as it would be easy to launch an attack from there.”

The Defence Headquarters, Abuja, however, said it could not confirm the deployments, adding that it was a matter being coordinated by political leaders.

Don’t Try Me With Fani-Kayode, Ex-Minister Begs Court

A former Minister of State for Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, has asked Justice Muslim Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos to allow her to be tried separately from a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission charged Usman and Fani-Kayode with an alleged fraud of N4.9bn.

The other defendants in the charge are one Danjuma Yusuf and a company, Joint Trust Dimensions Nigeria Limited.

The defendants were arraigned before Justice Hassan on 17 counts on June 29, 2016.

Trial in the case had commenced on October 21, 2016, with the EFCC calling its first witness, Idowu Olusegun, a media consultant.

At the resumed proceedings in the case on Tuesday, Usman’s lawyer, Mr. Jelili Owonikoko (SAN), pointed Justice Hassan’s attention to two pending applications filed by his client.

One of the applications, Owonikoko said, was praying the court to allow Usman to be tried separately from Fani-Kayode and for her trial to be transferred from Lagos to Abuja for convenience.

Owonikoko said his client was apprehensive that she might not get justice if she was jointly tried with Fani-Kayode.

“We are concerned about the joint trial of the first defendant (Usman) with the second defendant (Fani-Kayode),” he said.

He said it was inconvenient for his client, who lives in Abuja, to be travelling to Lagos to stand trial.

He said it became even more difficult for the former minister because all her bank accounts had been frozen, adding that for each court appearance, she would fly to Lagos a day before, lodge in a hotel and return to Abuja the day after the court trial.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria told the court that Usman, in the second application, prayed for the release of her passport to enable her to travel abroad for medical treatment.

Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, Mr. Norrison Quakers (SAN), also filed an application, urging Justice Hassan to excuse himself from the case because the judge was once a prosecutor with the EFCC.

Justice Hassan adjourned till Wednesday (today) to hear the applications.

This 94 Years Old Australian Woman Works Out Ten Times A Week

The last place you'll expect to see a nonagenarian is the gym but for 94 year old Edna Shepard, age is just a number. The grandma puts in a shift of ten gym classes a week and her energetic routines will put much younger women to shame. The former dance teacher has just been presented with an award from the Hume City Council Mayor in recognition of her incredible efforts to keep fit and healthy.

'(She's) an inspiration to us all,' Mayor Drew Jessop said. Shepard said staying fit is a lifestyle choice age can't rob her of.
'I'm always on the go, I don't like sitting around,' she said.
Ms Shepherd said she allows herself just one day off from classes at the gym, Thursdays and she even spends the off day ballroom dancing. She says she likes the social aspect of the gym classes as much as the health benefits.
'Well I like hugging the men, oh I'm a naughty girl,' she said. Ms Shepherd's fitness repertoire includes aqua aerobics classes, tai chi, ballroom dancing and one of her favourites, the fast-paced Zumba. 'I like Zumba, oh yeah that's good,' she said.
The 94-year-old said she did not see age as a barrier and had no intention of hanging up her running shoes any time soon.

Witness Says No Evidence Saraki Operated Foreign Accounts As Governor Or Senator

Amazu said this while being cross-examined by Paul Usoro, counsel to Senate President Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Earlier, he had testified that Saraki transferred funds to his accounts in the United States (US) and London at the time he was Kwara state governor.
“The customer, Dr Saraki, with the address Government House, Ilorin‎,  gave an instruction to transfer $73, 223.28‎ to the beneficiary, American Express Services Europe Limited through their bank, American Express Bank of New York‎, for ‎the funding of the amount utilised on Amex card issued to the customer (dollar credit card) ending in 6009‎,” he had said.
He had also said that “from his (Saraki’s) pound sterling account at GTB to his Fortis Bank account in London, 761, 904.76 pounds was transferred ‎on the 15th February, 2010″.
It is against Nigerian laws for a public officer to operate foreign bank accounts.
He had given his testimony while being led in evidence by Rotimi Jacobs, counsel to the federal government and prosecution.
But under cross-examination, Usoro asked him when he made his statement to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and he said it was on 10 September, 2015 , five days after Saraki was summoned by the tribunal.
He also admitted that there was no evidence to show‎ that the defendant operated those accounts.
He said the transfer of funds to American Express Bank of New York was for accounts operated by American Card Services, and not by the defendant‎.
‎Contrary to his earlier testimony that an operator of a credit card must have a bank account, Amazu said the issuer of Saraki’s credit card was not a bank.
Here is a rundown of the dialogue in parts.
Usoro: Who issued the documents you testified on?
Witness: It was issued by the bank‎.
Usoro: But in the documents, it says public sector group of Ilorin, is that correct?
Witness: Yes.
Usoro: So, you have nothing to do with it?
Witness: Yes.
‎Witness: My lord, I want to say something… I don’t know what the issues in the documents are. The prosecution was only asking me questions and I was responding.
Usoro: You were not in the funds transfer unit when these funds were transferred on 15 February, 2010, is that correct?
Witness: Yes.
Usoro: The first time you saw these documents was in regard to this matter?
Witness: Yes
‎Usoro: You have nothing to do with the documentation of these fund transfers, is that correct?
‎Witness: Yes.
