Everton Interested In Signing Manchester United Outcast Memphis Depay (Read)

Everton are interested in signing Manchester United winger Memphis Depay, according to Sky sources.

However, it is understood the two clubs want different deals that would see the Netherlands international leave Old Trafford this month.

Sky sources understand the Toffees want a loan with an option to buy, while United want to sell him permanently.

Nice were also interested in Depay, who has been unable to establish himself in Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans, but the French Ligue 1 club ruled out a move earlier this week.
United signed Memphis Depay under Louis van Gaal’s reign as manager, in a £25m deal from PSV Eindhoven.

The 22-year-old made 45 appearances for United in all competitions last season but he has not made a single start in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho.

His last appearance came in November when he came on as an 82nd-minute substitute in the 4-0 Europa League win over Feyenoord.

Sky sources understand Everton want to strengthen three key areas this month; on the wing, in central midfield and central defence.

They have signed winger Ademola Lookman from Charlton and are interested in Depay’s United team-mate Morgan Schneiderlin as well as Roma defender Kostas Manolas.

‘You Need To Grow Up!!’- United States Vice President Joe Biden Tells Donald Trump

United States Vice-President, Joe Biden, has told President-elect Donald Trump to “grow up” and criticised his attacks on the intelligence community.

On Friday, Mr. Trump will be briefed on allegations Russia meddled in the U.S presidential election – claims he has cast doubt on.

Mr. Biden said it was “absolutely mindless” for the president-elect not to have faith in intelligence agencies.

Russia denied hacking alleged to have helped Mr. Trump defeat Hillary Clinton.
Late on Thursday, Mr. Trump questioned how intelligence agencies were confident about the alleged Russian hacking “if they never even requested an examination of the computer servers” belonging to the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

For a president not to have confidence in, not to be prepared to listen to, the myriad intelligence agencies, from defence intelligence to the CIA, is absolutely mindless,” the BBC quoted Mr. Biden as saying in an interview with the PBS network.

“The idea that you may know more than the intelligence community knows – it’s like saying I know more about physics than my professor. I didn’t read the book, I just know I know more.”

When asked what he thought of Mr. Trump’s regular attacks on Twitter, Mr. Biden said: “Grow up Donald, grow up, time to be an adult, you’re president. Time to do something. Show us what you have.”

He went on to call Mr. Trump “a good man.”

Why I Am Leaving Chelsea For China – Mikel Obi Opens Up In Emotional Farewell Letter

John Obi Mikel has spoken for the first time, about his move to Tianjin TEDA.

The 29-year-old is set to seal a free transfer from Chelsea to the Chinese Super League club after 10 years and 374 appearances for the Blues.

In an open letter posted on his Twitter page, he wrote:
“To my Chelsea family,
“After ten years, 374 appearances and eleven trophies, it is time to say goodbye.
“Where do I begin? I joined Chelsea as a 19-year-old kid from the Norwegian Premier League, making my debut in the Community Shield. I say goodbye as a champion of England, a champion of Europe, and proud captain of my national team.

“To play in the Premier League, the best league in the world, is every professional player’s ambition. But to play for Chelsea, to become part of the Chelsea family, to work with some of the best managers and players in the world, has truly been an honour.

“Every achievement I have been part of in my time at Chelsea holds a special memory: my first goal, against Macclesfield in 2007 (even though there were only five more after that!). The nail-biting end of the 2010 season – securing the title on the last day, scoring a record 103 goals in the process, and winning the FA Cup a week later. Didier’s extra time winner against Manchester United in the 2007 FA Cup Final. Beating two of our biggest London rivals in League Cup finals. Winning the Europa League in Amsterdam, with one of the last kicks of the game.

“Then there was Munich. We were desperate to make up for the disappointment of the 2008 final, but trailing with two minutes to go, against Bayern, in their own stadium, it seemed that once more luck was against us. But that night, with lions on our chest and the fans behind us, we fought. Up popped Didier, the rest is history, and to date we’re still proudly the only team in London with a European Cup.

“None of this would have been possible without the wider club’s support. To Mr Abramovich, the club’s staff, coaches, physios, and to the managers I played under at Chelsea, I want to say thank you.
“But my biggest thanks must go to the Blues fans. You brought me into the Chelsea family, you sung my name, and were there with us every step of the way. Thanks to your support, on nights like in Munich, you made the impossible possible.

“As you will know, I haven’t featured as much this season as I would have liked, and at 29 I still have many years in the game ahead of me. With this in mind, I feel now is the time to seek a new challenge. I’m delighted to be joining Tianjin TEDA in China, at a time that the Chinese Super League is really taking off, and I look forward to helping Tianjin TEDA continue to grow both on and off the pitch in the next few years.

“To everyone at Chelea – goodbye, and thank you. You will always be part of who I am, and I wish you the best of luck. I could not be happier to be saying goodbye with the club back where it belongs – top of the league.

“Keep the Blue flag flying high!
“Mikel John Obi.”

Angolan president's powerful daughter takes over largest bank

Isabel dos Santos, daughter of Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos has reportedly taken over the country’s largest bank, Banco de Fomento Angola (BFA).

Isabel, who heads the country’s oil firm Sonangol, is reputed to be the wealthiest woman on the continent. Forbes reports that she had nearly 19% of Banco BPI shares, Portugals’s fourth-largest bank.

BBC reports that BFA’s controlling stake was bought from a Portuguese bank by Angola’s largest phone operator Unitel which is run by Ms dos Santos. As at today, she is listed as one of two Vice-President of the bank’s board of directors.

Portuguese bank, BPI, accepted to relinquish its stake in the bank as a result of pressure from the European Central bank. According to the ECB, BPI’s exposure to Angolan government debt was too risky under new European banking laws.

Forbes pegs her current worth at $3.2 billion largely made from investments. In Angola’s former colony, Portugal, she owns a nearly 7% chunk of oil and gas firm Galp Energia (alongside Portuguese billionaire Americo Amorim).

‘‘She is also a controlling shareholder of Portuguese cable TV and telecom firm Nos SGPS (formerly called Zon). In June 2015, media reported that she spent slightly more than $200 million to buy a stake in Portuguese electric power equipment firm Efacec Power Solutions,’‘ Forbes said.

Angolan lawyers have filed an appeal in the Constitutional Court after the President’s billionaire daughter was cleared to take office as the head of the country’s national oil company.

The Supreme Court last month rejected an application by 12 human rights lawyers to have Isabel dos Santos removed as the head of Sonangol, which handles the oil and gas reserves of Africa’s largest oil exporter.

The lawyers, who have accused President Jose Eduardo dos Santos of nepotism, first filed a case rejecting the appointment at the Supreme court before it was over ruled on December 27.

Nigeria resumes payments for former Niger Delta militants

Nigeria has resumed payments of cash stipends to former militants of the Niger Delta Avengers as agreed under a 2009 amnesty, a government official said on Thursday.

The paid stipends covered August and September, and under the amnesty, each former militant is entitled to some $206.68 monthly plus job training.

Authorities had originally cut the budget for cash payments to militants to end corruption but later resumed payments to stop pipeline attacks crippling vital oil revenues.

Nigerian government has been holding talks with the militants to end the attacks, which reduced

Nigeria’s output by 700,000 barrels a day for several months last year.

Crude sales make up about 70 percent of government revenue and the attacks have deepened an economic crisis brought on by low global oil prices.

10 million children to benefit from FG’s schools feeding programme

At least 10 million primary school pupils across the country will benefit from the newly- introduced school feeding programme initiated by the federal government and tagged “Buhari food for the children.”

This was disclosed by Senator Chris Ngige, the minister of Labour and Employment, in an interview in Awka, Vanguard reports.

According to him, while five million pupils from Primary 1 -3 would be catered for by the federal government under the programme, the states were expected to feed another five million from Primary 4 -6 through a counterpart funding programme.

Ngige said the programme had begun in eight states, including Anambra state.
The minister noted that it was important that Nigerians to know that ‘it is Buhari food for the children’ which, according to him, was part of measures to cushion hardship faced by parents.

While urging other states to key into the programme in view of its benefits to the Nigerian children, Ngige said that Kaduna and Osun states were already embarking on the programme before it was introduced nationally.

He said: “To whom much is given, much is also expected. For the federal government to use Anambra as one of the states to begin the school feeding programme shows that President Buhari considers Anambra a very important state. We therefore call on the Anambra state government to fulfill its part of the agreement without delay.”

Those protesting are not pensioners —Imo govt

But reactiing to the allegation, the Imo State government said the issue of pensions in the state had been resolved, saying the people who protested at the Government House, Owerri, yesterday, were not pensioners.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Rochas Okorocha, Sam Onwuemeodo read: “No pensioner in the state was part of that protest. Those involved in the exercise were between the ages of 40-45. And we challenge those involved to prove us wrong by publishing their names, their autonomous communities, local government areas, years of retirement, where they retired from and their identification numbers.
“The truth of the matter as it concerns the issue of pensions in the state is that more than 99 percent of the pensioners in the state have been paid arrears of their pensions upto December 2016. The remaining one percent are pensioners who were omitted in the first payment exercise and they are at the moment receiving their cheques.
“The government had long before now complained that the monthly pension bill of N1.4 billion had become too cumbersome for the state government to bear with 27 local governments, whereas another state with 44 local governments pay far less than that amount as pension.
“Hence, the arrangement that pensioners from grade level one to six should get one hundred percent of whatever was the arrears of their respective pensions, while those on grade level seven to 17 would have 40 percent of their total arrears paid. The idea was to solve the lingering issue of pension arrears in the state once and for all.
“It is, therefore, surprising to see few people claiming to be pensioners at the Government House on a protest over an exercise that has been successfully completed.”

Okorocha Is Owing Us 77 Months — Imo Pensioners

Owerri—Pensioners in Imo State, yesterday, protested the continued refusal by Governor Rochas Okorocha to pay them their pensions which ranged between 22 and 77 months in arrears.

Scores of pensioners, led by their state chairman, Chief Gideon Ezeji, blocked Okigwe road as well as the entrance to Government House, Owerri.

They urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call Okorocha to order, saying: ”He behaves disrespectfully and treats senior citizens in the state with deplorably.”
"According to Ezeji,”Okorocha derives joy in seeing elders in this state coming out from time to time to the streets to ask for their pension. What did Okorocha do with the bailout fund that President Buhari gave to him? We are protesting for the third time.”
The latest development, which they described as ”wicked of Okorocha’s government is the plan to pay 40 percent of the accumulated arrears and gratuities and forfeit of 60 percent. We say no to this latest government plan to deny us the payment of 60 percent of arrears up to December.
”As at December 2016, the state is owing Imo pensioners between 22 months and 77 months arrears. Our gratuities have remained unpaid since 1998 till date.

“Also, the government has refused to harmonize our pensions since 2000 to date. All the efforts by the union overseeing the welfare of pensioners have not yielded any fruit.”

Doctors Vow To Shut Down Federal Medical Center Makurdi By Monday

Doctors under the auspices of the Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, at Federal Medical Center, Makurdi have resolved to embark on a one-week warning strike, citing irregularities in their salaries and promotion.

This was disclosed by the President of the association, Dr Michael Ijiko while addressing newsmen after a protest carried out by the doctors within the hospital premises.
He said Federal Medical Center, Makurdi had the poorest indices of staff welfare compared to other centres in the country.

“It is only amongst doctors today that you hear that somebody on the same grade level as you is collecting more salary than you in Sokoto and yet we are keeping quiet.

“For two years now, it’s only at Federal Medical Center, Makurdi that somebody will pass exams and will not be upgraded appropriately. It has never happened and we will not condone it.

“Two years after the national health bill and act, where are we today? None implementation. More than two years after circularization of our skipping, where are we today? None implementation. House officers entry point has been circularized, where are we today? None implementation. How long are we going to sit down and keep quiet in the face of this injustice?

“From 8am on Monday, 9th January to 8am on Saturday, 14th January, we are going to register our displeasure with the system.” He said.

Dr Ijiko expressed regret over the inconvenience the action was going to cause patients saying, “we are standing here not because of ourselves but because of our patients, children and the society. We cannot continue to keep quiet in the face of this injustice.

“What needs to be done, needs to be done and we must play our part to make sure the system moves forward.”

Speaking further, Dr. Ijiko said, “We have come to a point where we have no choices. A country where agreements are reached and flaunted with utmost disregard is not a country that has the concern of me and you.

“Today in this country, let us be honest with each and every one of us here, if you have a severe head injury in Makurdi as I speak, you are finished. If you have cancer in Nigeria today, you are finished. So what are we talking about?” He queried.

I know Buhari’ will not perform– Fayose

- Governor Ayodele Fayose says he has always known that President Muhammadu Buhari will not perform in government

- The Ekiti state governor said the change mantra which President Buhari promised Nigerians is not working

- Fayose calls on President Buhari to save Nigerians from agony since they voted for change

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has said all his predictions that President Muhammadu Buhari will not perform in government have all come to pass.

Fayose told Vanguard in an interview on Thursday, December 5, that he has always known that President Buhari will not perform in government.

The Ekiti state governor said the change mantra which Buhari promised Nigerians is not working.
He said:
“The question to ask is that; every observation, every comment, all I said before the President became President of Nigeria, they’ve all come to pass.”
“The truth lies in the fact that I know the President will not perform. I know he will be taken over by a cabal and they’ve taken him over.”

"Nigerians are suffering. You can read between the lines. Forget about the messenger, think of his message. This change is not working.”

Fayose called on the president to save Nigerians from agony since they voted for change.

He said millionaires of yesterday have become paupers because they are losing money.
The governor said the average man can no longer eat and asked how long Nigerians need to wait for the promises which he said were empty promises.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ekitit state chapter has warned against the alleged renewed plot to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose.

PDP declared that, if such is eventually carried out, it would lead to the total collapse of President Muhamadu Buhari administration.

The opposition party branded Fayose as a man of the people and the leader in the country, who commands enormous followership across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

Barr. Gboyega Oguntuase, the PDP state chairman, speaking on Wednesday, January 4, said the letter written earlier that day by the governor to the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen to inform him on the alleged moves to manipulate a section of the judiciary to effect the move was justifiable.

Oguntuase who maintained that the move would create crisis of monumental proportion that would be difficult for the Nigeria Army to curtail said: “removing Governor Fayose from power is like removing the whole Ekiti who voted for him in all the 16 local government areas of this state. Any war wage against our governor will be resisted by the people from all these zones.

Nigeria can’t be Islamised – Vice president Osinbajo

- Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says it is impossible for Nigeria to be Islamised

- He says it is impossible to Islamise the country given the 1999 Constitution that forbids state religion

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has urged Nigerians to ignore rumours that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was moving to Islamise Nigeria.

According to him, Nigeria can’t be Islamised, as he added that it is impossible.
Osinbajo made this known after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Student Christian Movement of Nigeria (SCM) in his office on Thursday, January 5, Vanguard reports.

Expressing appreciation to SCM for the honour, the vice president solicited the organisation’s assistance in disseminating factual information about the federal government’s policies and programmes.
The vice president also urged religious bodies to channel their energies towards proffering solutions to the numerous challenges facing the country.
He challenged Nigerian youths to take advantage of abundant opportunities in ICT, agriculture and other sectors, while encouraging the youths on the importance of using the internet to acquire knowledge as well as learning a second language to boost their global competitiveness.

Recall that before the election in 2015, Prof. Osinbajo spoke out that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not secretly plotting to Islamise Nigeria if it won the election.
The vice president last year disclosed that Buhari’s cook of 25 years and his driver are Christians, adding that while he was a Military Head of State, almost 70% of his cabinet were Christians and he never made attempts to Islamise them.
